Real World Communication - Summer 2019

Tong

China

Hello everyone, My name is Tong, and I am from China. I am living in Denver now. It is really a good place to live since I am a outdoor sports enthusiast. They say it's a heaven for outdoors. I like skiing, climbing mountains, and running. I am thinking of learning Paragliding now.  It really attracted me... can you imagine you are flying in the sky? I am a woman who likes to take adventure.

If I stay at home, I like reading, writing, and doing some crafts. Specifically, I like building miniature houses. Watching movies and playing Ping-Pong are also good choices for me.  I like to make new friends, especially friends with strong sense of humor. They are outgoing and easy to get along with.  I have a simple and small family, it's just my parents and my younger brother. They are all friendly and sweet and always ready to help others. My life is very simple.  Sometimes I feel I always live like an old person: reading, sporting, eating, learning, working and sleeping. I think that's all!

Beatriz

Mexico

Hi everybody!! My name is Beatriz and I am from Oaxaca, Mexico.  I am 27 years old. I come from a beautiful country that hosts so many beautiful places with unique traditions and customs. My homeland, Oaxaca, is becoming one of the international destinations for tourists around the world. Speaking a second language like English is a big deal there. I got into learning English since I was 12 years old, then when the time came I studied the B. A. in foreign languages, specifically just in English, and it has been a long journey to learn this language.

After finishing my career, I started working as an English teacher. I have worked with 3 to 9-year-old children.  My second work is being an Interpreter from English to Spanish and vice-versa. My jobs are the main reasons that I became an Au pair, as I had traveled to the USA while I was in college, I knew that coming back again would help me improve my second language skills. I will add, too, that I love traveling and learning new things, also I am really patient with children. Moreover, I have a genuine interesting to learn about American culture at first hand. And sharing mine as well, which I am really proud of it.

Lastly, talking about my interests and hobbies, I love listening to music, I would not imagine our world without it, while cooking, traveling or relaxing I am also listening to my favorite artists. Also, I love spending my time with my family and hangout with friends. As I mentioned before, I love traveling and getting to portrait the world on my camera is becoming a great interest.  I am feeling really blessed with all the opportunities that I have here in Denver, this is a beautiful place.

Thank you for reading to the end of this Bio!!!

Nicole

China

Hi there, nice to meet you! I am a 23 year old from China. I am an outgoing girl with an open mind and would like to experience different cultures.  The most important reason for why I want to become an aupair in the US is I don't want to stay in China the rest of my life, finding a job, blind dating, getting married, and that is it. I want to experience more. I am curious about American family education, and I like children, so I like to spend time with them. So I think this is a great chance for me to experience different culture and to broaden my horizons.

I live on the east side of Denver. I have two host kids who are 4 years old. They are twins: one boy and one girl. The kids need to go to school during the day, so I usually have free time during the day. I usually go to a swimming pool to practice swimming, sometimes running, or cooking at home. I also like to visit different places in Denver, to enjoy this year abroad.

Maria

Columbia

Hi ! My name is Maria. I'm from Colombia and I'm 28 years old . I consider myself as a person with a high sense of responsibility, patience, work ethic and creativity. In the last year, I was working as a Physical Therapist in an early stimulation program with kids between 3 months and 2 years old, which has been the most beautiful experience. I decided to become an Au Pair because I really want to improve my English skills and enjoy traveling in the US and, why not, fall in love. I have been in Colorado for 1 and a half years with a lovely family, and I take care of two kids who have become very important to me. I live in Aspen which is a small town in the mountains and in Denver too, so I think I'm very lucky. Living in the US has been an incredible experience. I've known and learned about American culture and their people. Being an Au Pair is the best option that I've taken. It has changed my life in a different ways. I have grown as a person and as a human being.

I hope you have enjoyed my Bio as much as I've enjoyed my life in the US!

Luzie

Germany

Hi, my name is Luzie, I'm 24 years old and from Germany. I joined a dancing group back home, and I love to play the guitar and sing. Before I came to the United States, I finished university in Regensburg where I studied social work and worked as a bartender on the weekends. I grew up in a really small village in Bavaria where everyone knows everyone and I like that a lot. It's all really familiar and that's what I kind of miss the most. But regardless of that, I've always liked to explore the world and stay in other countries for more than just a holiday. I've been to New Zealand and Australia for half a year in 2014 to do work and travel. Also I stayed in South Africa for 5 weeks last summer to help work in a Kindergarten. I think that taught me a lot. Last year, I also decided to do the Au-Pair program here in Denver. When I visited the US in 2017 with a few friends, I became very interested in the country and the culture. I think the US is incredibly varied when it comes to landscapes which I love. Also of course I enjoy spending time with children, and I wanted to try to start a whole new life far away from home to see what that would be like. That's basically what brought me here in the first place. I really like Colorado because it's located pretty central which makes it easy to travel in every direction, and I think the people here are very open and fun. I already look forward to seeing my family and friends back home when I get back, but until then I'm excited for everything that this year has to offer.

Charlotte

France

Hey! My name is Charlotte, I'm 22 and I'm from France, from Paris exactly. This city is known as the city of lights, love, and arts. But even if I love my country, since I'm young I wanted to come to the United States to discover another country and another culture.
This is why I decided to become an au pair, it was the perfect match for me since I love taking care of kids and also it was the perfect fit to discover the American culture by living with an American family.

From 2016 until 2018 I was studying to become an Event Planner and I received recently my Bachelor Degree. I'm here since January and the graduation was in April 2019 so even if I missed my graduation party, being here it's such an opportunity to learn the American's event because it will be a way to share the American Dream through my events.

About me? I like to be creative, dancing is my passion. I also love learning new things like photography, making videos, learning new languages. This experience helped me a lot about self-confidence and purchasing my dreams so this is why I'm taking more initiative here.

Now I'm interesting about discovering a new country and a new culture, so I think after my extension I will travel again in Asia and more specifically in Korea to discover the nature the history and the life nowadays.

Merci for reading my bio!

Camille

Belgium

Hi there ! My name is Camille and I'm from Belgium, known to be one of the first 3 countries of European Union. Belgium is like 1/10 of Colorado, so I have already explored almost everything there and a lot of Europe too. That is why I decided to become an au pair here in the United States ; I wanted to see another part of the world and discover the American culture.

In 2018, I was studying to become an elementary teacher and I received my education degree. I moved here in Denver in November 2018. Being an au pair was sometimes easy for me, I love children so much ! But I'm also missing my tiny country and the European ways of paying attention to ecology. I try to live without wasting by reducing my consumption but, here, it is a real challenge.

I like to be creative, knitting and sewing are my passions. I also love to sing and play piano. I'm not very athletic except when it is about horse riding. I would love to go in the beautiful mountains of Colorado on the back of a Mustang !

Thank you for visiting our blog (and reading my bio!)

Andrea

Colombia

Hey , I am going to tell you more about me. I studied Hotel & Tourism Management in Colombia because I love to explore new places, and I love all the things about customer service. Also this involves knowing more languages to communicate with all our future kinds of customers or tourists so I decided to started with English because since I was a child I have been interested in it.

Two years later after I graduated from the College I found the option off being an Au pair which has been permitting me to improve my English and to be a more  self-confident , mature and independent woman. This adventure is even  giving me a lot off good memories and friends.

Now I am interest to do a master in Europe so I am working to figure it out how I can do it. and wait !  I love to share with you that i am from Colombia , one of the most beautiful countries in south America , it has a lot of places to visit for all kinds of interests, we are rich in a lot nature, and we have a tons of variety of cuisine.

Simone

Denmark

Hi there. My name is Simone. I am 27 years old and I am from Denmark.
I have lived in Denver, Colorado for almost two years, working as an au pair.

After finishing my degree in Sales, working at a danish fashion company, I decided to take a break from school and education. I went to Austria for five months, working for a Danish travel agency that offers skiing vacations all over Austria and Italy. When I came back to Denmark, I did not feel like I was ready to settle and I decided to go to The United States to be an au pair, to travel, to meet new people, explore a different culture and to find my place in this world.

I have always loved to be creative, make things, decorate and do crafts and I love how we live in a world where I can find inspiration wherever I go. Inspiration is important to me in everything I do. I have to feel inspired in order to do by best.

I love to be outside, I love to go skiing in the mountains or go hiking. I also love to just be a home, watch a movie and stay in bed all day. Getting out and being social is very important to me and I love to be around other people. Staying in is just as important.

Linda

Austria

Hi! My name is Linda and I am from Austria. I was born and raised in Vienna, the City of Music. My wish to experience life away from home and to see as much of the world as possible led me to the decision to come work as an au pair in the United States for a year after graduation. I found a great host family in Denver and that's where my journey began.

For me, the thought that this time last year I still was in the middle of finishing school is crazy, considering the fact that now only one year later I am living in a great new city trying to live my best life everyday. I am an ambitious, active and creative person. Therefore I like to spend most of my time off work going to the gym, being outdoors, meeting friends, studying or doing something creative. But of course, as I assume that most other human beings do as well, I also spend a fair amount of time at home watching Netflix or doing nothing.

Personally, I feel very blessed that I have the opportunity to live in the United States for a year! Halfway through I have already seen lots of great places, fallen in love with Colorado, met amazing people and got a good impression of what life in America is like. Nevertheless I am very excited for what this year still has in store for me!

Juliana

Colombia

I'm Sofi!

If you ask me to describe my self I would probably hesitate a lot or just keep it simple by saying the basics. I'm a 20 year old Colombian Au Pair. I decided to come to the US to figure out what I want to do with my life (no success yet) and improve my English skills of course.

I can happily say that I had a pretty good childhood. The early 2000's were the best! As I said I'm from Colombia and back there I had a relatively privileged childhood, I went to school, learned  how to count and read and all the stuff they teach you when you are attending school. Then I started college. I was so exited, it was a whole new experience! But I got tired  very quickly , so I decided I didn’t want to waste time and energy in something that I wasn’t really sure I wanted to do.  I paused college, made all the paperwork I needed and here I am, almost 8 months in the US and it has been great.

I’ve learned so much in this 8 months I was so scared at the beginning but now I feel much more confident in situations I’ve never thought that I could handle. I’ve met people and places, I’ve grown as a person, I’m more independent and I’ve learned to take care of my self.

Stuff I enjoy: food, traveling, movies and TV shows, warm weather, sleeping in and specially explore new places and have new experiences.

Katrin

Germany

Hi! My name is Katrin, I'm 19 years old and from Germany. I live in a town near Frankfurt am Main. I like to spend my free time with my friends, go out, and travel.

In 2017 I first heard of the Au Pair program and really liked the idea of spending a whole year in a different country to experience the culture, improve my language skills and become more independent. After graduating from high school I knew I didn't want to continue school right away. Instead I wanted to come to the USA and spend a year in an american family as an Au Pair and so I did.

I've been in Colorado since 9 months now and absolutely love it! It is great to live so close to the mountains. The view is stunning and the next ski trip is just an hour away. Over the past few months I've met so many new people, made really good friends, saw new places and found a second family and home here in the US.

Thanks for reading my bio!

Clara

Argentina

Hi! My name is Maria Clara. I am a very open-minded person who is still trying to find my place in this world. I love to be outside doing fun things and trying new things. I like most of the sports but I prefer to play volleyball and chess. I also like board games and video games.  I am a very active person but I also enjoy just staying home reading, watching a movies or listening to music. The most important thing in my life is my family and friends. I love to spend time with them. I am from Argentina, but I am currently living in the US. I came to the US in October 2017 to live an incredible experience as an au pair. I have been for a week in New York when I first arrived here in order to attend to a training school before to arrive with the family. Then I flew to Denver, Colorado, where I have lived the past year and a half.

I am 24 years old. Back home I was studying to be a kindergarten teacher. I love children so much. Working with kids is one of my biggest passions. In my country I used to volunteer at a soup kitchen and to help families that were going through hard situations. I helped them with some food and clothes that I collected every month, but my favorite part was spending time with the kids every week. I helped them with their homework and with anything they needed. I stayed playing with them and I usually cooked some dessert for them and we shared it at the end before I left. I have decided to come to the US to work with children and at the same time to have the possibility to improve my English and to travel a little bit around the US. I love to travel! So I have found the way to fuse my two biggest passions with this experience. I love to get to know new people and new cultures and to learn from them. I have learned a lot during this time here and I am looking forward to expand my career and keep working with kids helping them to make their life better. One of my dreams is to have the possibility to work with children in Africa and contribute at least a little bit to make a change in this world.

Welcome to this blog. You will find information about being an au pair in the US and our experiences being here. If you have any questions or doubts, you are more than welcome to always ask.  I will be happy to help you with that.

Lenka

Czech Republic

Hi everyone. My name is Lenka and I am Czech girl with sense of humor living in Denver as an au pair. Why did I decide be an au pair? I wanted to improve my English, travel in the US and learn some new things about American culture, and I always wanted to try living in another country.

My hobbies are snowboarding, learning about  the world, photography, going to the movies, being with friends, reading books and being in the nature. I am friendly and kind person who loves humor and fun activities. I would like to share my life and funny things which happened to me as an au pair. I want to write some stories about my experiences and traveling in the USA. And of course, I will share some photos from my way because it would not be good story without photos.

I hope that being au pair will be good start for my career and my future life because right now I just know I want to know more things about the world. That is my dream.

So, let’s go. I am ready.

Victoria

Austria

My name is Victoria. I’m 19 years old and from beautiful Austria. After graduating from high school, I decided to take a break from studying and moved to Colorado in October of 2018. I’m currently working as an au pair and live with my wonderful host family and my three host kids in Aurora. Before I came to the US, I lived with my parents, my sister and our dog in a very small town (700 inhabitants, and it feels like half of them are related to me). I care a lot about my family and friends and I do miss them, so living abroad is definitely challenging at times, but I’m sure that I’m in the right place at the right time!

I’d consider myself as a very creative human being. I
love to sing and dance, had piano and saxophone lessons for 10 years and won a couple abstract art contests. Besides that I’m very outgoing, I love to meet new people, try new things every day and would love to travel the world someday, after I win the lottery of course.

Just like everybody else I have some weird habits/addictions:
whenever someone says they love coffee I always think to myself ‘My
brain functions on coffee only!’ Plus my obsessions
with dogs might be considered unhealthy since I always and I mean always
have to pet them. I’m definitely an extrovert but if there’s a dog at a party, I’ll be definitely hanging with the dog instead of socializing.
Enough about coffee and dogs. I hope that I could
give you an idea of who I am and you liked this short bio about me, myself, and I.

Lorene

France

I’m Lorene, a 21 years old French girl! I’m an au pair in Denver for six months now.

Before coming here, I was studying film because movies mean everything to me. Since I was a child, I love going to the movies as much as I can and being amazed. Because that’s what movies do, they take you far away from your reality for a while.

But the reason I came here is that I needed to spend time focusing on myself to really know who I am. That’s how my adventure begins! And after six months, I can already say that I found what I was looking for. Being away makes you realize two things: the world is big and beautiful but there’s no place like “home.” That’s why I love traveling. Places are amazing, rich of new experience and wonderful people, but after all of that it’s great to be back in a familiar place.

But not yet! I have six more months to go, and I’m ready to enjoy them as much as I can. I’m one of those people who are thinking that we just get one life so catch every single second to make it yours.

Welcome to my life!

Emeline

France

My name is Emeline.  I’m a French Au Pair in Denver. Who am I? Why did I came to the US? You’re welcome to read my bio to get to know me better.

I’ve spent most of my life in France. I grew up in the South West, a region rich from its history, culture and I have to say, it’s wine. I come from a typical French family, and I grew up seeing my father traveling a lot all over the world. It helped me a lot to understand who, what, and where I want to be as a grown up. Then, I’ve decided to start studying a Bachelor degree in Business School which gave me the opportunity to travel around Europe for several months : Finland, Russia, Baltic Countries, Sweden and Spain. I’ve finally graduated from my Bachelor degree but it wasn’t time for me to stop discovering our globe. My au pair experience in the United States started.

By nature I’m ambitious, curious, and motivated. Being an au pair was the perfect solution for what I was looking for: discover a new country by living with an American family for a year. I have to say that it wasn’t easy to leave my family and friends behind for a whole year but after 4 months in the US, I have no regrets and I’m enjoying every moment here, with my host family and new people I met. I had the chance to visit few cities and skiing in the Rocky Mountains and I’m already planning my next adventure over the United States.

Fernanda

Mexico

My name is Fernanda. I am from Mexico, and I have been here in Colorado since 6 months ago. I decided to come here to improve my English and be more independent because I was still living with my parents in Mexico and this is a good experience in my life. I love travel and I am interested during this months to travel to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Pasco, Atlanta and Honolulu, Hawaii.

I finished my degree in April 2018. I am an  industrial metrology engineer. Before to come here I worked in Mubea is an industry that make some auto parts. I love my profession but also I always wanted to live in another country for a period of time. I have been playing softball since 2014 and I really miss my team in Mexico.

Currently I am an au pair. I take care of two kids: one girl of 9 years and one boy of 10 years , I love my kids and my host family because they are really nice with me and they always try to make me feel as a part of the family. In my free time,  I spend time with my friends. I like to go hiking and trails and go to the gym.

I studied in Washington DC in January for a weekend class in University of District of Columbia. I liked this class because it was for know more about American culture and discover DC. Now I am here in University of Denver in this awesome class “Real Word Communication” and I hope to share this experience with my family and my friends when I will go back to Mexico. This is something that I wanted to share with you and welcome to our blog. I hope that you like it!

Germany

My name is Selina and I’m 19 years old. I’m from Germany and I traveled to the US to become an au pair. It was my dream to become an au pair since 2016 when I thought about what I want to do after graduating from high school. I wanted to learn more about the American culture, improve my English skills and I like taking care of children so I thought the Au Pair program would be the best way to go to the US. Now I’ve lived in Colorado since January 9th.

In my free time I ride horses and in Germany I’ve got riding lessons since I was 11 years old. I also enjoy listening to music, reading books, or hanging out with friends. In Germany I’ve lived together with my parents, my grandparents and my aunt. But most of the time I  spent time together with my boyfriend and my friends. I like to meet new people from other countries and learn more about their culture. That’s why I really enjoy the au pair program because you meet so many different people.

I hope you enjoyed reading our blog and I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences as an au pair with you!
